I will put usefulness first

A tool should exist because it solves a real problem—not simply because another page increases the size of the website.

I will not require an account

You should not need to register, create a password or join a mailing list before using a calculator.

I will respect calculator privacy

Where practical, calculations happen inside your browser. I do not deliberately build personal histories from the figures you enter into calculators.

I will explain estimates honestly

Some answers are exact arithmetic. Others depend on typical values, published guidance or assumptions. I make that distinction clear on the page rather than presenting every result as certainty.

I will use plain English

Technical terms are sometimes necessary. When they are, I will explain them rather than assume everybody already knows what they mean.

I will show the method

A useful calculator should not behave like a mystery box. Important pages will explain the formula, source or reasoning behind the result.

I will correct mistakes

No site is immune from errors. When a genuine mistake is identified, the aim is to check it, correct it and improve the explanation where necessary.

I will keep editorial judgement separate from advertising

Advertising helps pay for the site. It does not decide the result of a calculation or change the method used.

I will keep improving older pages

The site grew quickly. Some early pages are shorter than the standard now being introduced. Those pages will be reviewed and expanded rather than quietly pretending the work is finished.
